Hello Wednesday - for dad
09/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
This Hello wednesday is for all those Dads out there, the project can be made by kids, just perfect for Fathers Day. We all know how difficult it is to make male cards and gifts, this one is so simple it is almost unbelieveable!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/Ribbon+Fathers+Day+Project+watermarked.jpg)
I had no problem wrapping the ribbon around the prezzie it was just like tieing a tie on your self!! Although it has been a long time since I last wore a tie - urrmmm a school tie!!!! I used 40mm wire edge ribbon, this spotty one was just perfect to go with the brown paper of the present. The ribbon is from our Woodland Collection and can be found HERE.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/tie+parcel+main+cropped+400.jpg)
The note book and card were both made in the same way. I stuck a patterned paper onto the front of a plain white card, then I cut a slit in the card from the top edge and folded the corners back to create the shirt collar effect.
This jotter note book I found in Tesco's for 35p - bargain. It is one of their value range and the front cover was very flimsy, so I just stuck white card onto the cover, before I stuck on my shirt paper.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/brown+tie+close+up+400+wm.jpg)
The tie was a little harder to tie, as you have nothing to tie around! So here are a few easy steps to follow.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+1+fatherday+tie.jpg)
Fold the ribbon as shown.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+2+fathersday+tie+copy.jpg)
Tuck the right hand ribbon, through the loop.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+3+fathersday+tie.jpg)
Pull it all the way though the loop, so it begins to look like a tie. You will note that the left hand ribbon has scrunched up, this is ok.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+4+fathersday+tie.jpg)
Tuck the left hand ribbon also through the loop, making sure the front face of the ribbon is facing upwards.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+5+fatherday+tie.jpg)
When you have this amount of ribbon left, stop pulling the ribbon through but push the remaining ribbon into the knot.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+6+fathersday+tie.jpg)
Keep tucking it in until you can no longer see it.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/step+7+fathersday+tie.jpg)
Trim the ribbon ends to finish the tie.
This grosgrain ribbon was just what I was looking for to go with my shirt paper and I found it in our Bargain Basket (HERE), it's only 30p per mtr. That's another great Bargain from Crafty Ribbons!
Hope you have fun this wednesday, enjoy the day.

Still Blooming
08/06/2010
Here is another collection of Full Bloom Challenge goodies and despite the recent rain they are still blooming!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/tracy+candle.jpg)
This is a first for our blog, we have never had a decorated ribbon candle before, very ingenious Tracy. I would agree with your note, I would remove the white leaf garland before lighting the candle.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/tracy+card.jpg)
Yes, Tracy must have stamped (or something) onto the candle, because she has sent in a card with the same image. We love the ribbon border. Glad you enjoyed your first ribbon challenge with us Tracy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/poppy+card+1.jpg)
Poppy sent in this sweet card, those purple glitter flowers are gorgeous. Great idea to mimic the ribbon flowers.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/poppy+card+2.jpg)
This is a very colourful card, and looks as if the flowers have been printed and not pieces of ribbon - amazing Poppy.
We still have a few more goodies to arrive, but I have a funny challenge feeling coming on - What do you think? Do you also have that challenge feeling? Fancy joining in? Just keep an eye on the blog.
Boo Hoo no ribbon delivery today! So I made up for it by buying some more NEW ones!
I liked your story Clare (read Clare's comment of yesterday), so we are not unique down here in Dorset then?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2009/1/ali.jpg)
Oh No, No Ribbon!
07/06/2010
What a fab weekend, the weather was just perfect. This is a very quick post as we are in the middle of a photo shoot and we need to finish before it rains!
Sydney wanted to pull the number from the "Bingo" bag this week, from the top of the ladder!!
So the lucky winner of this weeks Friday FREEBIE is.......

No. 32 Tracey and Paul
Tracey wrote: "what a fantastic friday freebie x x x"
WOW Tracey you have won our first ever voucher for £20.00, that's amazing, do you have any ideas of what you may spend it on? Please contact us at craftyribbons@gmail.com so we can tell you how to use it. Sorry to all the rest of you that left wonderful comments, I wish I could give vouchers to you all.
I will tell you a little funny story:- we were all busy in the warehouse this morning, pulling orders and sorting emails and the post from the weekend. We heard a van pull up but none of us took any notice, then Rachie shouts "UPS". We all drop everything and charge outside. Bev who works at the back of the warehouse, was the last one outside - "Nuh nuh we beat you" we cried together. "Ah but I have the scissors" as she waves them in the air. Uh that's not fair.
The UPS man opens the sliding door of the van and nearly falls out, not expecting a gaggle of women waiting for him (he went bright red!). We were all jumping up and down waiting for a new delivery of ribbons (sad I know!), UPS do not normally deliver to us you see. He started unloading boxes and boxes of Mail Lite envelopes - "NO" we cried together, "Where is our ribbon?". What a let down, we had to have an early tea break to get over the disappointment.
Oh well, there is always tomorrow.

Do you remember our Ribbon Challenge # 12 "Cherry Pie"
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/2/cherry+pie+ribbons+400.jpg)
It was all the way back in early Feb (ring a few bells now!), well Charlotta sent in her email to be part of this challenge and she was number 4. She was ever so pleased and so was I, as Charlotta is from Sweden, our blog was going INTERNATIONAL! The ribbons were duly posted, but never arrived. Charlotta and I decided that the postie must have got hungry on his rounds and had eaten the Cherries.
Out of the blue in mid May Charlotta received our packet of Cherry Ribbons - HOORAY!!! Almost 4 months for a small packet to travel to Sweden - via goodness knows where!
So here are a couple of Charlotta's cards that she has emailed me with.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/charlotta+1.jpg)
Please do not ask me to translate the message! Charlotta help. What a fun card, I love all the shades of pink.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/charlotta+2.jpg)
This is very sophisticated Charlotta, that backing paper is gorgeous. We hope you have enjoyed your late bunch of Cherry ribbons, and thank you for following our blog. The Full Bloom Challenge is almost over, so please keep an eye out for the NEW Challenge.
Just a few fun pics from our play day yesterday at the Swannery.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dorset.jpg)
A bit of an arty shoot, I had my camera on mono, it is not your screen playing tricks! There are hundreds of swans here, it is an amazing place if you are happy to be around swans.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/chicks.jpg)
But this is what we had come to see, these little cygnets had only just hatched, you can see they are still damp.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/swan.jpg)
and of course these,
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/3+ducks.jpg)
thought this was fun.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/happy.jpg)
we had a really great time walking amongst the swans, then....
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/swing.jpg)
....we headed for the play ground!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2009/1/ali.jpg)
Ribbon Roll Mountain
03/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/mountain+of+ribbon+rolls.jpg)
We have put a mountain of Bargain ribbon rolls on the website in the last few days. We have almost 100 rolls of different ribbons either 10mtr or 20mtr rolls, satin, sheer, fresco, wire edge ALL at the BARGAIN price of 10p per mtr. These ribbon rolls are full size, NOT little 3mtr ones and are from the worlds leading manufacturer - Offray Ribbons. There are widths from 5mm all the way up to 56mm, plains and patterned. Have fun rummaging through all these rolls.
Two more talented crafters have joined in with our Full Bloom Challenge, I believe both have been in every challenge we have set. Their work is fantastic and they always send in different projects and crafts, first we have Beryl's collection of treats.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bee+butterfly+card.jpg)
This butterfly Beryl is a dream, it is just so life like. Looks like you had a play with colouring the white leaf garland too.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bee+box.jpg)
Look at this box, it has such detail, great layering of ribbon Beryl.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bee+bag.jpg)
WOW! This bag is just wicked, isn't it divine with all those ribbons, so fresh and summery. Do you want a closer look at Beryl's rose?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bee+bag+rose.jpg)
Beryl has not used just 1 ribbon, not 2 ribbons BUT 3 ribbons to make this rose - it is just perfect.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bd+card+1.jpg)
Dorothy alwyas sends a Pandoras box of challenge goodies to us. I am surprised if she has any ribbons left after the challenge to enjoy for herself!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bd+card+2.jpg)
This is a delicate card Dorothy, such fun
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/bd+card+butterflies.jpg)
Oooh there appears to be a butterfly theme going on here, the colours are just glorious.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dorothy+fairy+card.jpg)
Dorothy likes her fairies, and she has added to this cards beauty by embroidering on top of the printed blue flowers, very clever.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dorothy+doll+1.jpg)
Dorothy also sent in two charming porcelain dolls dressed in ribbons.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dorothy+doll+2.jpg)
Wonderful dolls Dorothy, I promise they will be given a good and loving home. We received the other two yesterday, so they are also safe and sound.
I am sure you will agree with us that the Full Bloom Ribbons hit a certain spot with our challengers, as ever the ribbons are so versatile they can be used on so many different projects.
No work for me today, I am off on a play day, taking the little ones to Abbotsbury Swannery to see the baby swans. According to Sam everything is a "Duckie" so it should be entertaining!!
See you tomorrow with the Friday FREEBIE.

Hello Wednesday
02/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
No, I have not gone mad, well maybe a little, it's just that wednesday is just another day of the week. kicking it's heels. Wednesday's need celebrating, it's a special day - the middle of the week.
Crafty Ribbons is going to say "hello wednesday" every week, it may be a project, a simple card idea a photo or even a thought of the day. Come and check out our wednesday's and see how special they can be.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/Mollie+dress+mot500.jpg)
A simple make over - the white dress was a bargain at £6.00 and was perfect for my little project. I do not believe you could make this cotton dress for £6, I used to supplement my income at college by making christening outfits, little frillie dresses with matching frillie knickers and then old fashion mop caps, they used to take me ages.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/rugffle.jpg)
The frill was made using our wire edged taffeta ribbon (can be found HERE), I just pulled the wire out of the edges, so that it would be washable. You could use a satin ribbon but as this is a much thicker ribbon it would not have produced such a frillie frill! I took a very long piece of 6 stranded thread, (long enough to go all the way round the dress and more) and stitched a running stitch all the way along one edge of the ribbon, gathering it up as I went. Once the ribbon was fully gathered, I just sewed into onto the dress by hand.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/flower.jpg)
This leaf garland is just wicked, I have been itching to use it (can be found HERE). With matching thread I hand stitched it down the centre with a simple running stitch. The flowers were made using the same wire edge taffeta ribbon (wire removed). The flower is in the same style as the sheer ones we made earlier in the year - refresh your memory by clicking HERE! I added embroidery thread tufts just by knotting pink and lilac thread together to the centre panel of the dress.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/pocket.jpg)
Last few details, I hand stitched around the pockets just so they would stand out a bit. Lastly I tied a couple of little bows to trim the top of the pockets. Simple bow instructions can be found HERE.
Just goes to show what you can do with a few bits of ribbon!! I hope you enjoy the dress as much as Mollie does, she refused to take it off yesterday!!!!

Full Bloom - Part 3
01/06/2010
What a horrid wet day, how can we have two days so different?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/seatown+400.jpg)
I took this picture on Sunday at Seatown on the Jurassic coast, we never made Portland this weekend. The colours were just so awesome, look at that horizon. I think this view is just so fantastic, I just had to find a way I could look at it every day.....you may notice it in the side bar, I even managed to hide the crab pot buoys under the letters! Tee hee.
Although it has been raining for most of the day I have had the lovely job of looking at wonderful Full Bloom Challenge goodies, the photos were taken last week when the sun was shining. We are showcasing two more talented crafters today, Jenny and Margaret. Not sure when Margaret is home she has been on a cruise, lucky you Margaret.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/jenny+brooches.jpg)
Jenny made these two charming brooches, they are just delish, I love them.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/jenny+dragon.jpg)
I think this is very clever Jenny, the way you have used the ribbon as curtains - just perfect.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/jenny+flower+card.jpg)
You have been busy Jenny, (it confused Rachie!) we only stock this leaf ribbon in white or moss. Looks like the white leaf takes ink very well - good thinking Jenny.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/margaret+blue+card.jpg)
A wedding theme card from Margaret, simple but elegant.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/margaret+bookmark.jpg)
Margaret this bookmark is just what I need. (I have found a new author and have started to whizz through her books. Any one else read Annie Groves? I have started with her latest release and am working backwards - I like to be different.) This is just so simple, a length of ribbon stuck onto card, with a ribbon tag at the top - how pretty is that?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/margaret+i+card+1.jpg)
Margaret had the same idea as Jenny about this leaf ribbon, but not until after she had stuck it on to the card! But she sent me several samples, so I could see her results. This is ALL gobbledegook to me, but you will understand what Margaret has used. She produced a lilac sample with a squirt of Cosmic Shimmer Mist in Bilberry Crush and a pink piece using Distress Ink "Worn Lipstick" on a cotton pad and then rubbed onto the leaves. She advised that you keep dabbing until the colour is how you like it. They both look quite stunning.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/margaret+yellow+card.jpg)
This card is dramatic Margaret with its shiny card, it really pulls the colours from the ribbon.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/margaret+zig+zag.jpg)
Not sure what you call these cards - anyone help me out? I will call this Margarets Zig Zag card, it would look elegant on anyones mantle piece, standing tall and proud.
I have been busy sewing over the weekend, not quite what I had planned, will tell all tomorrow, and more challenge goodies on Thursday.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/2/Ali+x.jpg)

Another two collections of Full Bloom Challenge cards for you today. The first 3 are by Tracey and Paul the 'Crafty Pair'.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/5/tracey+card+1.jpg)
This a very simple but elegant card Tracey and Paul, the ribbon really stands out as the focal point on the card. I like people to notice ribbon!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/5/tracey+card+2.jpg)
Gorgeous colours, and the ribbon matches the cat stickers perfectly, what a handsome couple.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/5/tracey+card+3.jpg)
Oooh this one is different, rather than cutting this ribbon up and using the ribbon squares, Tracey and Paul have mimicked the square theme with their embelishments - very clever.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/5/linda+card+1.jpg)
Linda has used the same ribbon as above but cut out the ribbon squares and teamed it up with a delightful stamped birthday verse. The side ribbon pulls the design together, quite stunning Linda.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/5/linda+card+2.jpg)
I was intrigued to see how this leaf ribbon would be used, it comes in white and olive. Linda has used it just how I planned, for a wedding card (these ribbons are part of my Wedding Collection, but as yet unphotographed and sat in the warehouse! - sorry). Perfect Linda, maybe you have inspired me to get a move on, or I will miss the season!!! All the ribbons you have seen can be found in our Full Blooms Collection HERE. Don't worry if I have not shown your challenge goodies yet I still have a big pile to share with you all.
Have a totally fantastic Bank Hoilday weekend, I hope you have lots of fun trips planned - I'm thinking of the sea again, maybe Portland Bill with a barbie watching the sun go down. Must remember to take a cushion this time, those Portland rocks are HARD!!!
