Ribbon Challenge # 16
19/06/2010
SORRY THIS CHALLENGE IS FULL.
A NEW Ribbon Challenge has arrived - anyone fancy some "Fun in the Sun"?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/sun+cards.jpg)
We have a super collection of summer ribbons, imagine - flip flops, ice cream, fish, crabs, sunflowers, cupcakes, oooh there are loads! They finally turned up this morning. After clearing customs on Thursday afternoon they were then sent to Gloucestershire NOT DORSET!!! Our local depot were given strict instructions to ring us when they had their hands on the parcels - I was not expecting a call at 7am this morning!! But hey ho I now have some more drop dead gorgeous ribbons. Bev and I were sitting on my kitchen floor at 8.30am ooing and ahhing and admiring the collections. The "Fun in the Sun" is just part of the shipment!
Get on with it Ali. Do you think you could come up with some unique creations using this selection of ribbon? Fancy playing with some fun ribbons? With the summer holidays fast approching do you think you could have "Fun in the Sun"?
If so, then we have 10 free bundles of "Fun in the Sun" ribbons to give away. All we ask in return for these ribbons are two cards or projects that use the ribbons around a summer theme.
The ribbons can be used to enhance all forms of crafts - card making, projects, ATC's. If you are up to the challenge, then send us an email to craftyribbons@gmail.com marked RIBBON CHALLENGE # 16
The first TEN to reply will be sent an email requesting address details so we can send your free ribbons! Your finished cards and projects will be posted onto the blog.
Have some "Fun in the Sun" with Crafty Ribbons.

Friday FREEBIE 25
18/06/2010
It's that time of week again - Friday FREEBIE
We hope you have had a great week. We have been busy in the ribbon warehouse this week and have almost finished our "spring cleaning" making plenty of room for all the new ribbons that are on order. We have had a couple of shipments arrive this week, but not the one we are really excited about - it is stuck in customs! Tony will be on the phone again trying to sort out the problem.
So what have we for this weeks Friday FREEBIE? Well.........
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/deckchair+stripe+ribbon+want+it+all.jpg)
.....we have all fallen in love with these - Deckchair Stripe Ribbons. There are 13 lush ribbons in the collection, we launched them yesterday. This must be the fastest turn round of stock that has made it onto the website, they only arrived in the warehouse on Wednesday afternoon- we just had to share them!
We have two sets of WANT IT ALL Deckchair Stripe Collections, so two lucky winners. All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment, BUT don't forget to check back on Monday afternoon to see if you are a winner. We have two unclaimed prizes from last week!
The blog had an upgrade this week, we have to keep on top of those spammers! So if you are having trouble leaving a comment please email it to us at craftyribbons@gmail.com so we can add it for you. Once you have been added (or re-added, due to the upgrade) you will be able to leave comments without any hassle. We are very sorry if you do experience a problem, BUT we are sure that you do not want to read strange and sometimes offensive comments. Fingers crossed our long awaited delivery arrives to day - I want to set a NEW Challenge with the ribbons!

Deckchair Stripes
17/06/2010
Woooohoooo!! We received one of our ribbon deliveries yesterday - yippeee!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/deck+chair+striperibbon+400.jpg)
What do you think of our NEW Deckchair Stripe Ribbons? We think they are fantastic ribbons and such awesome summer colours.
25mm grosgrain with WOVEN stripes that run along the length of the ribbon. You can find them all HERE
Bring the beach into your home and projects with these Deckchair Stripe Ribbons.
Talking of stripes, it's that time of year again - Dorchester Carnival. We are not as much involved this year as there is no Carnival Queen, so no float to cover in ribbon bows. Although we have been doing a few bits and pieces for the Carnival team. Rachie and Marten (Rachies husband) are both on the committee so where they go little Miss Mollie must follow.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/MOLLIE+FRONT+JACKET.jpg)
All Mollie was missing was her Yellow Jacket - last years was way too small for her. She is hard at work here trying to make the crayons stay in the pot while she pushes the trolley.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/MOLLIE+JACKET+BACK.jpg)
I dusted off my sewing machine for this little jacket, expecting to just whiz around the ribbon. No such luck, sewing machine had the hump (may be I need to use it more often). Tony took it to our local repair shop on Monday only to be told they couldn't look at it this week because of the World Cup. Come On! What has the World Cup got to do with mending sewing machines!!
Rachie had brought in a large yellow jacket, which I cut down to fit Mollie, then I hand sewed the luminous pink reflective ribbon around all the edges. As you can see we have been unable to remove it from Mollie all day!
Have fun at the Carnival guys.

Hello Wednesday - Dino Day
16/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
Dino Day for a little boy - our Sam. He just loves this T-shirt. I hung it up in the front office and waited to see who noticed it. Sam was the first, all he kept doing was roaring and saying me! I think I had a winner.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+t+shirt+2+400+wm+copy.jpg)
So off to the park we went to take some photos. Oh I did have some fun!
The t-shirt was just plain white, another bargain at 2 for £1.50. I had the green fabric in my stash, so I ironed on a sheet of double sided bondaweb to it and drew the dino shape. I cut the shape out and removed most of the bondaweb backing paper, just leaving a 1cm strip along the Dinosaurs back, this is where the ribbon slides in.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+spines+wm.jpg)
I positioned this onto the t - shirt and ironed the dinosaur in place, once it had cooled I removed the remaining paper from the back spine and started making the ribbon spikes.
I found grosgrain ribbon was the best for this, it produced a nice shape you can find some HERE. I tried with satin but it keep sliding, so I thought it would be a nightmare to sew.
Folding the ribbon is easy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+spines+7.jpg)
You can use different widths, this one is 25mm. Hold the ribbon between your fingers, with the wrong side of the ribbon facing you.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+spines+8.jpg)
Fold the ribbon in your right hand downwards to create a right angle. The ribbon should have a long straight fold at the top.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+spines+9.jpg)
Next fold the ribbon in your right hand, so that it now sits on the ribbon in your left hand. It will have created a triangle point. You are looking at the BACK of the ribbon point.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/dino+spines+10.jpg)
Turn the ribbon the correct way round to see the full effect, a nice smooth triangle. You can iron this if you wish, but I wanted mine to be more free and to stand proud on the t-shirt.
I made the triangles one at a time, then slid them under the green fabric of the Dino and pinned in place. I repeated this simple process until his back was covered in spikes.
Place a cloth on top of the Dinosaur and gently iron it, try not to move the iron around too much, you may move the spikes. You just want the remainding bondaweb to adhere to the ribbon.
To make sure it would all remain in place I hand stitched around the Dino shape with 3 strands of embroidery thread. A small doll button for his eye and he is finished.
This all may sound long winded but in all it took less then an hour. Sam is so chuffed with his t-shirt, he adores his Dino.
Enjoy your Dino Day.

A Ribbon Surprise
15/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/ribbon+hamper.jpg)
Some girls get all the luck!
We had an email recently asking if we did such a thing as a ribbon hamper. Oooh that's a good idea. So I rang up the gentleman to find out what he had in mind. A friend of his just loved ribbon and he wanted to give her a prezzie full of ribbon - well we can all relate to that!
So I had great fun today shopping in my own shop! I walked up and down the ribbon aisles with my shopping basket, selecting this ribbon and that. I had them all laid out on our big work table, just to make sure they looked super good.
I then wrapped groups of ribbons together in tissue paper with little tags, this was so the surprise would go on and on.
We do hope the "lucky lady" will enjoy her ribbon surprise.

The FIVE winners are....
14/06/2010
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/freebie+with+5.jpg)
What a nightmare it was to try to get ALL five numbers to show in the picture at once, Mollie didn't quite make it in this one, so you just have to trust us that it was number 28. She got bored and was walking off.
The Friday FREEBIE winners of the butterflies and spots are -

Well done everyone you have some wonderful ribbons coming your way, all we need are addresses please to craftyribbons@gmail.com . We had no idea how butterfly crazy everyone was, almost every order since Friday has included these scrummy butterflies. It is not often that I say this, BUT I do not think our stock is not going to last long - and sadly I am unable to get further supplies (I have already contacted the manufacturers - boo hoo). So for a little inside information, if you want these butterflies, please do get in quick. I am not trying to sell them to you, I am just trying to avoid tears!
A huge thank you to everyone who left such delightful comments, they are much read and loved! Please do not worry about Winnie, he may wear dresses but he is loved so much by little Sydney that I think he is quite happy to be what ever she wants him to be! As Bev said, she picks the colours and ribbons and I just make the outfits, she always wants skirts.
Still no deliveries today, I am out of the office a couple of mornings this week and I bet they will turn up then.

Bev has a NEW Ribbon Bag
12/06/2010
Glad to hear you all like my NEW butterfly ribbons. I had to almost lock them away from Bev, she sooooooooooo wanted to put them into her last Bev's bag. As it is I can spot 5 ribbons in her NEW Bev's bag that are not on the website - what am I going to do with her?!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/celbration+of+summer+400.jpg)
She has called this her "Celebrate Summer" Ribbon Bag, you can find it HERE. Just had another look at the photo, there are SIX NEW ribbons, and one is my Balloon ribbon. That's it, when (or should I say IF) our ribbon deliveries turn up next week, I am going to lock myself in the office while I unpack them on my own - making sure I make really loads of loud oooohs and aahhs.
OK, OK I am not that mean, we all enjoy opening boxes full of NEW ribbons.
