Hello Wednesday - Ribbon Jars

07/07/2010

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday  "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

What do you give a crafting friend that has everything, and I mean everything?

Who could resist these ribbon jars, they are jam packed with ribbons!!  Just perfect for that little summer treat for your crafty friends, much better then a box of chocolates and you are also doing your bit for recycling.

O.K. you have to eat the jam, but if you have a Tony or a Sydney in the family then your jam pots will never remain full for very long! They both love this type of jam and I love the labels, you know, black and white with that old fashioned feel.

I washed out the pots carefully so that the labels didn't get damaged, and left them to dry.  The fun part was picking all the different ribbons to match the name on the jam pot labels.  You can use the ribbons from your stash (if you can bear to part with them) or we have put together Jam Pot Ribbons, you can find them all HERE.

We have tawny orange, with a zany collection of orange and lemon ribbons. Oh the Blackcurrant pot is bursting with berry delicious purples! I am sure you will find a flavour you love, the ribbons are all narrow to a maximum width of 15mm, which could be used to tie the bow on the jam pot. (Sorry the jam jars are not included, although Tony and Syd eat a lot, certainly not enough to keep up with the (hopeful) demand! Buy all 7 flavours and only pay for 6 - bargain.

But you can make your own, they are really easy - cut a circle of fabric for each ribbon jar, the fabric was from a tea towel, I liked the waffle effect design. Just place the jar lid onto the fabric and cut around, making sure you make it about 3cm larger all the wayround the lid. It was a bit fiddlly getting the fabric to stay on the lids while tieing the bow, until I thought of an elastic band (lightbulb moment).  Put the lid onto the jar, place fabric over the top of the lid, pop an elastic band over the fabric - fabric stays in place while you tie the bow, magic!

If you can not remember how to tie these simple bows, you will find the tutorial HERE

Do you like the Purple Polka Dot ribbon?  It is a limited edition colour and also comes in Turquoise. It was added to the site this morning you can find it HERE

Please, please if you want this ribbon get in quick, it is a true LIMITED EDITION Colour so stock is very limited.

Challenge 16 - Goodies

06/07/2010

Woo hoo the sun is still shining, it's just fantastic and perfect to show you our Fun in the Sun Challenge goodies.  We have had some truly cracking crafting summer goodies.  Looks like you are loving this NEW range of ribbons - Fun in the Sun can be found HERE.

So lets showcase the first selection of parcels I have opened from our Ribbon Challenge # 16

Dawn has used two of the ribbons on this charming card, the shell and fish ribbon looks as if it has been printed onto the card and not ribbon - amazing.  Did you colour the crab motif in Dawn?  It's perfect.

I don't mean to make a joke, but this flip flop ribbon is walking out! Honest. Dawn has used the ribbon to sit ontop of the pink wave ribbon, very clever.  Oh I could do with a nice ice lolly, fab colouring.

This card is stunning and has captured the uniqueness of the ribbon perfectly - was it Tracey's or Paul's card?

Sun, sea and buckets and spades, this ribbon has it all. Love the way the suns have been punched out from the squares and the yellow placed behind.  Another classic from Paul or Tracey, thank you guys, hope you enjoyed the ribbons.

What a fun card Claire, all those balloons (yes they are ribbon - HERE) floating in the wind. A perfect cloud background. Think Claire has put glossy accents ontop of the balloons, please tell me if I am wrong Claire.

I tried to get a little girl to model this for me, but as she has very little hair, Mollie was not keen.  This is delightful Claire, and the little girl is magic.

This is a really cool idea Claire, perfect for a trip to the beach. A box containing a Tic Tac Toe board with instructions and cut out ribbon as the disks.  Just wicked, I can recommend this to slip into any beach bag.

A super collection of goodies, we hope they give you some inspiration for your summer projects, we have more to share later in the week.  i still have to open parcels from, Beryl, Marjoire and Toni. just a litle nudge, if you have finished your challenge goodies can you post them back please.

Have a good evening.

This is what the magazine wanted - In the Pink.

Make time for yourself with - In the pink

We just fell in love with this ribbon, Big Sister (Me), Middle sister (Bev) and Lil' Sister (Rachie).....

Gail had a nice surprise on Saturday, her cross stitch crazy magazine turned up and there was her Strawberry and Cream cross stitch card staring back at her (jog your memory HERE), and they had included our web details.  Huge thanks Gail, and congrats for getting your creation into print.

I am off to do a bit of digging - you will find out more on Thursday!!

Hello Wednesday - Belt it in

30/06/2010

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday  "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

I think todays project is just a little sweetie, and if it takes you more then 5 minutes I will come and do it for you! Now that is not something I offer very often.

Poor Mollie is always losing her trousers, she doesn't seem to have a waist, she wanders around with the very elegant look of a "builder" - I am sure you know the style I mean.

This simple belt has solved the problem, and as I said it took under 5 minutes to make.

All you need is a couple of D rings a length of ribbon and a needle and thread - that is all.

The ribbon I used is a woven style and is reversible, we have a couple of these on the website, this heart one was just perfect for little pink Mollie, you can find it HERE.  There is also a dottie version in Pink/Brown and Lime/Pink both can be found HERE.

Decide how much ribbon you need to go around the waist, and leave some extra ribbon to hang down.

Place one end of the ribbon through both D rings, fold the ribbon over so the D rings are trapped between the ribbon and sew a few stitches to secure the ribbon in place - THAT'S IT!

Have a play with some ribbons and see what belt styles you can come up with, all the children in our family LOVE ribbon.  When we are out shopping together, Sam will pick up rolls of ribbon and shout "ALI". We are still trying to teach him the word RIBBON, but he knows best and replys "NO, ALI".

It sounds as if the girls have been looking after you. YES, we have got prezzies for them, as well as a French Picnic for today, with lots of wonderful treats. So if you call the warehouse just after 1pm, you may find that it takes the girls a little longer to answer the phone!!!

We had a wonderful time, the weather was totally fab so we are relaxed, rested and raring to go. I have lots of things planned, which you will see appearing over the next few weeks.  Can't tell you any more because I have not told the girls yet, and I am always getting into trouble for telling them last. I do not want to be in the dog house on my first day back!!

Well done to Marg and Lisa for winning Bev's Bag in the Friday FREEBIE this week, I have limited internet access when I am away, but I caught up with all the goings on during the ferry trip home.  Well, it is so boring that I make sure I have lots of things to do, and I was also trying to take me my mind off the fog bank we went through.  I hate fog horns, they are so scary, the fog distorts all sounds and you have no idea where it is coming from, it's not so bad when you are on a big Sea Cat and someone else is in charge, but on a small sailing yacht where your husband is the skipper, it's terrifying!!

All the fuss

28/06/2010

Don't know what all the fuss is about Ali, it was easy getting Mollie to pick this weeks Friday FREEBIE winners. I took the photo while mummy stood behind me holding the sweeties!!!

Although you have to be quick, she whizzes those numbers out of the bag so quickly, as you can see from the photo number 16 is still moving. If you do not shout STOP she just keeps picking numbers, and trying to get the "Bingo" bag off her, well we are glad that Ali will be back for next weeks photo. The tears stopped as soon as the sweeties appeared.

the lucky numbers are 7 and a very fast 16!

No. 7 Marg "Those ribbons look almost good enough to eat - though I promise if I win I wont do that! I'll use them on my cards."

No. 16 Lisa Hemmings "ooooh I love those colours, they are gorgeous.
Fingers crossed ALL weekend that I am the lucky one!
Love Lisa xx"

Well done Marg and Lisa you have a delightful selection of Strawberry and Cream Ribbons coming your way, all we need are your addresses to craftyribbons@gmail.com please.  As for everyone else a big big thank you for your wonderful comments, Rachie and I only wish we could send you all a prize.

Cor what a fab weekend weather wise, Syd and Sam loved playing in the garden, A while back Ali gave them a huge daisy that you attach to a hose pipe.  They have so much fun, the daisy dances about spraying water everywhere and they try to chase it.  Hope your weekend was just as fun filled as ours.

Bev and Rachie xx

Friday FREEBIE 26

25/06/2010

Wow what a busy week we have had, it just can not be Friday again!

We have launched sooooo many new goodies this week, did you see the NEW "Fun in the Sun" novelty butttons Ali put on the site before she went away. Ooooh, she didn't tell you she was going away, well join the club.  We only got told on Wednesday morning that they were going Thursday!!! All right for some, whenever she goes away to re-charge her batteries she comes back like a ticking time bomb - we never know what she is going to bounce on us next.

Here are the buttons, rather scrummy we think. You can find them by clicking the photo.

With Ali away it was down to us to pick this weeks Friday FREEBIE.  What could we give as a prize this week?

Both Bev and I think that Bev's NEW Ribbon Bag "Strawberries & Cream"  is one of her best, if not "THE" BEST she has designed.  All those strawberries and pinks mixed with the subtle creams ummmm perfect, so.......

....do you fancy winning a Strawberries & Cream Bev's Ribbon Bag in this weeks Friday FREEBIE?  We have TWO bags that can be won this week,  to enter all you have to do is leave a comment and Mollie or Sam will do the honours on Monday by picking two numbers out of the "Bingo" bag - how easy is that? If you are not feeling lucky BUT just have to get your hands on this delish bag then click HERE, we have already sold half the stock in 3 days - hooray!

Have a good rest Ali and Tony and don't forget the holiday prezzies, or maybe that is two prezzies each - one for your work colleagues and one for your sisters!!!! We are sure everyone agrees - don't you all?!

Rachie and Bev

The blog had an upgrade last week, we have to keep on top of those spammers! So if you are having trouble leaving a comment please email it to us at craftyribbons@gmail.com so we can add it for you.  Once you have been added (or re-added, due to the upgrade) you will be able to leave comments without any hassle.  We are very sorry if you do experience a problem, BUT we are sure that you do not want to read strange and sometimes offensive comments. ALL comments should appear on the blog straight away and we do not have any form of moderation process. Comments are very important to us - so please leave one.

Hello Wednesday - Poms Away!

23/06/2010

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday  "hello wednesday" It's all down hill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

I changed my plans for this weeks Hello Wednesday project after receiving several e-mails and lots of comments about my ribbon men - we call them Clown Poms! Some of you may have got a sneak peak of this on Monday, I was setting up the page ready to add to it over the last few days and I published it instead of saving it for later. Silly me.

I know you do wont believe me BUT they are really easy to make.  A circle of fabric, a length of ribbon and thread, a few bits of stuffing and you are away.

Do you remember the old fashioned wooden cloths pegs? Well this is what I use as the Clown Pom's head.  You can paint a face direct onto the peg but it sometimes "bleeds" into the wood, so I always dip mine into varnish and let it dry before I paint.  Like many things I do, I do not paint well, so I practice on some paper first to get the face I like. Cut the peg down to size - Tony does this bit for me (not brilliantly)  but thank you Tony.

Gather all the bits you will need around you - fabric circle about 15cm diameter, a peg head, white pom, stuffing, needle and thread and finally the striking Deckchair Stripe Ribbon which can be found HERE.

Double up your thread and put a knot in the bottom, sew all the way round the outside edge with running stitches, they do not have to be tiny!

Pull the thread to slightly gather the fabric, insert a little toy stuffing to the bottom, you do not want the peg sitting directly onto the fabric.  I added a teaspoon of lavender (can be found HERE) this can be left out, but it makes him smell great!

Insert the peg so it sits on the lavender. (Did you know that lavender will keep it's scent for years).  Every now and again give it a squeeze and it will release it's natural oils.  If you are using lavender from your garden, pop the flower heads into the freezer for 24hours BEFORE you use it.  This will kill any bugs and will stop them from chewing through your crafty creations.)

Insert more toy stuffing around the peg, try and keep the peg in the centre of the fabric, otherwise the clown pom willl be lopsided!

Pull the thread tight around the peg and secure with a few stitches.

This is our Deckchair Stripe Ribbon (HERE) you will need 25cm for the ruffle, fold over the raw edge and secure the thread at one end.

Sew along the edge of the ribbon, with running stitches.

Gather up the ribbon and place over the top of the clown poms head.  Tuck the raw end of the ribbon under the folded end and pull the thread tight.  Space out the ruffles and the secure the thread with a few stitches, the ruffle should be tight around the peg.

It should look like this!

Cut 5cm piece of ribbon for his hat, it needs to fit around your clown pom head.  My finger is the same size as the peg (handy) so I make the hat on my finger!!!  Fold the ribbon over and sew to secure in place.

Sew the two ends together.  Secure with a few stitches.  Next sew small stitches around the top edge of the ribbon.

Gather up the thread and the ribbon will scrunch together to form a little hat.  Secure with a few stitches and sew on a white pom, this will hide your stitching!

Glue the hat onto the top of the peg and you have a cheeky Clown Pom staring back at you.

Hope you enjoy making these little ribbon guys and enjoy your Clown Pom Day.

Before I go for today, Bev was so inspired by Gails Strawberry & Cream card that she designed a NEW Bev's Bag around the theme.

Butterflies and Strawberries

22/06/2010

Ummm! Butterflies and Strawberries that makes you think of summer, or at least warm days.

Noreen was one of our Friday FREEBIE butterfly ribbon winners and she has kindly sent in some cards to show us what she has made with the ribbons.  She must have loved the ribbons, they only arrived with her on Saturday and these cards were e-mailed through to me on Sunday, quick work Noreen! I think the cards are wonderful - do you want to see them?

This lime ribbon is just so "in" at the moment and teams up beautifully with this crushed pink.

I think it is wicked the way you card makers use the same layout and change the colours. Looks stunning Noreen, so pleased you liked the Friday FREEBIE ribbons. If you want some of these butterfly ribbons you can find them all HERE. We are already sold out of two designs!

You have seen the Butterflies, what about the Strawberries, well it is Wimbledon this week, so bring out the Strawberries and Cream Gail.

Wooo hoo that looks fantastic Gail.  This Strawberry ribbon has been out of stock for a while, but it is back in and can be found HERE.  Gail has sent this photo to the Cross Stitch Magazine where the chart came from, they have said her card will be going into next months copy.  Keep us informed Gail and we will buy a copy.

If you have any cards or projects that you have used our ribbon on and would like to share with us, please email a photo to craftyribbons@gmail.com We all love to see other peoples work and we must continue to spread the word about how WONDERFUL RIBBON IS!!

Sometimes you only need small lengths of ribbon, just for a little knot tie or a bow.  Our scrap bags are perfect for this (HERE), these bags are mixed with all types of ribbons, from Sheer to Christmas, 5mm to 60mm! BUT what if you only want 3mm satins?

Well ....it has taken us a long time to build up the stock of scrap ribbons for these NEW 3mm Satin Scrap bags!! You can find them HERE and they are only £1.00  Please REMEMBER they are SCRAP, the lengths can vary from 1cm through to 40-50cms.  We weighed a bag just to give us an idea of meterage, if you were to put all the ribbons together end to end you would have approx 120 mtrs for £1.00 That's another Crafty Ribbons BARGAIN!!!

Don't forget our little bit of sunshine offer - place an order today Tuesday 22nd or Wednesday 23rd and by typing    longest day     into the special voucher box during the check out process and we will give you a 15% discount off your order.  And there is more, if you know the answer to the FREE POSTAGE question you can go back into the special voucher box and enter it and you will get FREE POSTAGE as well.

Have a super day
