Friday FREEBIE - 20
20/05/2011
We certainly have had a busy week, what with being raided by Pirates and then capturing their treasure chest and finding it filled to the brim with Skull and Crossbones ribbons. And I know Bev has decided that Summer has arrived. It was her day off yesterday but she popped into the office to put together her NEW Bev's bag - she had been sitting in her garden enjoying the sun shine with Sam and thought oh "A Splash of Summer"
So this is Bev's NEW Ribbon Bag - Summer Splash.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/summer+splash+500.jpg)
WOW what striking colours Bev and I see you have sneaked in two of the LOVE ribbons! If you fancy a Summer Splash Bev's Bag you can find them here. Still the great price of £5.00
So what would you like for this weeks Friday FREEBIE prize.....are you into pink and lime and some Summer Splash.....or would you like some of these treasures.....
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/red+border+pirates+chest+500.jpg)
That's correct you can pick your Friday FREEBIE prize this week - A Bev's NEW Ribbon Bag or a Collection of Pirate Ribbon. I am feeling very generous so how about 4 prizes, so 4 lucky readers can have lots of ribbons to play with. All you have to do for a chance to win is leave us a comment. I have mentioned this several times but sometimes our spam filters eat your comments!! Please just email it to me at craftyribbons@gmail.com and I will add it for you - can't have you missing out on some FREEBIE ribbon.
This is the last collection of Seam Binding ribbon goodies - it has just been amazing showing you all the new and wonderful techniques that everyone came up with. If you have been thinking about giving Seam Binding a try, then go for it, we are postive that you will not be disappointed. You can find all the colours here.
This last collection is by Linda who has created some unique pieces from crocheting and finger weaving the seam binding.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/linda+brooch.jpg)
Cor I am a fan of crocheting (as I can not knit) but never thought of trying it with ribbon. This hair grip is stunning Linda, you could also use it as a brooch.. I sent 1mtr(ish) lengths out to all the challengers but Linda thinks that a 5mtr length would work better for this technique then you would not have to join two colours together.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/linda+ring.jpg)
And this little ring to match your summer outfits would be simple and I assume quite quick to make.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/linda+braid.jpg)
Linda used finger weaving with two colours of seam binding to make this wonderful bracelet - so effective. Just tie it in place and go!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/linda+close+up+braid.jpg)
Look at the detail, the seam binding almost moulds together.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/linda+braclet.jpg)
I believe this is also finger weaving - love the colour combo. Linda finished this bracelet with a barrel clasp.
We would like to thank everyone that joined in with the Seam Binding Challenge - it has been the longest challenge we have done. The numbers were larger and everyone had put so much time and creativity into their products that extra close up photos were required. You all created such stunning creations.
I am now FREE to start ripping open those button parcels that have been calling me.......oooooh the urge to get stuck into them has been huge......my self control has been second to none!!!
Sorry I forget to mention earlier in the week that Lucy had a fantastic wedding and said she had a wonderful daughter. She would like to thank everyone for their good luck messages and has promised us a photo or two.
Have an awesome weekend everyone, enjoy the weather and have fun.

If you are unable to leave a comment due to our spam filters, please email it to craftyribbons@gmail.com and we will add it for you. All the comments go into our "Bingo" bag and we draw a random number(s) on Monday.
Please check back to see if you have won, it is up to you to claim your prize - we do not contact you.
Ribbon Rosette
19/05/2011
What an amazing Ribbon Rosette made by Debbie over at the Crafty Pad.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/card3.jpg)
And she has made a tutorial to show us all how to make one. Why not pop on over and follow her super instructions here. I sent Debbie a selection of ribbons to have a play with, ranging from plain satins to shiny metallic gold. She chose the 16mm gold grosgrain (here) to make this card.
Thanks for sharing this with us Debbie and hope your stamps sell well.
I only have a few more Seam bindings to share, today and tomorrow. Today we have the creates from Merran, she has never done a challenge before but loved playing with the ribbons.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/merran+rose+card.jpg)
Merran used my rose tutorial (here) to make the basic rose, But then she sprayed it with cosmic shimmer spray to give it a vintage look.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/merran+rose+close+up.jpg)
Wow what a difference the spray makes.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/merran+fish+family.jpg)
Next Merran wanted to make a family of fish but....... her puppy took a shine to the yellow and green one and stole it from the table. Running around the house with it in his mouth, waving it madly.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/merran+yellow+fish.jpg)
This little guy survived the puppy!! On the plus side Merran found out the puppy did distress the ribbon in a vintage style....but not very practical!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/merran+sparkle+fish+450.jpg)
This glitter fish or should they be called angel fish are super Merran - they really look special. To get the glitter effect Merran covered the ribbon in glitter glue.
Fantastic makes Merran and I am left with a wonderful vision of your puppy running around your house with the ribbon fish, thanks so much for sharing.

Hello wednesday - Pirate school?
18/05/2011
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
Do Pirates go to school?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/pirates+pencil+case+500.jpg)
We have been ribbon pimping and totally pimped out this pencil case and note book.
Amazing what you can do with a few bits of ribbon!
The note book was VERY easy to alter, I just added lengths of ribbon to a spiral bound note pad and tied a knot. These narrow 10mm Pirate ribbons are in some wild vivid colours and matched the note book perfectly. As for the pencil case I just glued a strip of ribbon around the case. I added a ribbon through the zip pull for the finishing touch.
To create your own pimped up treasure then have a look here at the NEW Pirate Ribbon - as Charlotta mentioned in her comment yesterday - just in time for the new film Pirates of the Caribbean!!
Our little Pirates are at school today so peace and harmony is once again restored down Tin Pot Lane.

What a night...
17/05/2011
...our brave Ribbon Musketeers have been scouring the land all night looking for our ribbon treasure map......
...they arrived back at the warehouse......
...covered in plasters and exhausted from their search......
...but....
THEY FOUND IT!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/treaure+map+found+2.jpg)
Jumping with joy, clutching our map, the secrets of Crafty Ribbons Treasure in their little hands.
....but....
...what else do I see.....
....they found the Pirates Treasure Chest.....
...look whats in side.....
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/red+border+pirates+chest+500.jpg)
Lots of Pirate Ribbon you can see all of it HERE
How can we thank these Brave Ribbon Musketeers?
(A packet of sweets - no problem!)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/mandy+fox.jpg)
Even little Tilda joined in with the fun! Pretty with a Pirate Ribbon
Card made by Mandy Fox
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/sarah+hurley+card.jpg)
Ooooh scary, but what a wonderful colour combo.
Card made by Sarah Hurley
Thank you to everyone who joined in with our game - we had fun, hope you did too. We have four bundles of Pirate Ribbons to give away to the first 4 people who leave us a Pirate comment (maybe you are one of the Pirates that took our Treasure map, or you helped in the search last night!).
Have fun and enjoy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2009/1/ali.jpg)
...to the rescue...
16/05/2011
....we have had everyone looking, up and down the country for our ribbon treasure map....what are we going to do????
Only one thing for it....
....call in The Five Ribbon Musketeers (professional pirate catchers)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/5+muskateers.jpg)
A band of the bravest ribboners for miles around..
...nasty....horrid...
....they like nothing better then eating Pirates for breakfast...
Before they left to rescue our ribbon treasure map, we asked them (very nicely you know) to pick this weeks Friday FREEBIE winners.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/3+pirate+number.jpg)
The lucky Animal cuties winners are numbers
Number 7 = ummm oh dear that's me (Sam will pick a new number)
Number 13 = Julie Swann
Well done on the success with the video - let's hope there's more to come. Would love to share these fab ribbons - animals are great and would definitely brighten up my cards and other crafts.
Have a good weekend. xx
Number 40 = Samantha Ascott
Love the buttons mum bought from you last week
Sam picked a NEW number.
Number 22 = Louise
Great news on your video. Well done!
You all work so hard and really do deserve complete success.
Best wishes,
Louise.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/22+pirates.jpg)
(look how Mollie and Sam are getting into character - all Mollie needs is an eye patch!!)
Congratulations girls, you each have a gaggle of animals coming your way, I do hope you have plenty of room. It was very lucky the Pirates didn't steal the Animal Cuties or even worst EAT them. Maybe the lions scared the Pirates off!! Please email your details to craftyribbons@gmail.com so we can send your new family members.
Lets all wish our brave Ribbon Musketeers luck on their hunt for the Pirates that stole our ribbon treasure map.
Please find our map - the future of Crafty Ribbons is in your Musketeer hands.
The stealing of our map has somewhat taken over our blog posts for today, but we do have some Seam Binding goodies that we would like to share. Julie have you seen our map?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/julie+m+book.jpg)
Wow Julie that is amazing, how did you keep it all in place? I am a great fan of notebooks, and have ummmm rather a large collection!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/julie+m+book+close+up.jpg)
Look at how parallel the ribbons are - simply amazing work.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/julie+m+card.jpg)
I do like this colour combo Julie.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/julie+m+flower+close+up.jpg)
Great idea to mix ribbon and paper flowers together they work really well, could that be down to the different textures being combined?
Thank you for being part of the Seam Binding Challenge, I still have a few more goodies to share later this week, once we find our ribbon map.
Please, please have a good old hunt for the map, it could be in your craft room - These Portland (or it could be Poole - we are not sure) Pirates are sneakie devils and they could have hidden it anywhere.
Our ribbon Muskatees are on the case.......
...they nearly made our CityLink collection driver walk the plank until he opened his van so they could look inside...
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/city+link.jpg)
...Nope....no map in there....
Treasure map
16/05/2011
Oh No.....
Our ribbon treasure map has been stolen over the weekend....
...has anybody seen it?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/portland+pirates+2.jpg)
...it must be the Portland

Friday FREEBIE - 19
13/05/2011
Nearly the weekend yeah!! My brain is suffering from a bit of overload this week, what with trying to work out all the technology for making the video HERE (we have had 78 views, 2 comments from America and France and 1 Youtube subscriber!!). Then the TV interview on Wednesday....oh my poor little brain.
Only one way to relax and feel better....have a play with some NEW ribbons.......

A little bit of feedback please - Would you like us to do more video tutorials? If so, what would like us to show? Bev has already asked for one all about the Bowdabra, Syd is going to a birthday party tomorrow and Bev brought a prezzie in to the warehouse the other day for me to wrap and work my magic on....I only tied a double bow with pink wire edge ribbon and our Hello Kitty ribbon! (it did look really good, very girly) Please do let us know your thoughts, if you do not want to leave a comment you can always email me at craftyribbons@gmail.com
Todays Seam Binding challenge goodies are from Claire C, sadly there was no note (or I have lost it) so if I missed the finer details of Claire's work hopefully she will fill us in when she reads the post.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/claire+c+picture.jpg)
Claire this is amazing, I love the cracked glazed effect and the gold work - quite stunning. Did you paint those leaves? They are so lifelike.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/claire+handle+close+up.jpg)
The seam binding flowers and the plated hanging loop tone perfectly with the butterfly.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/claire+c+flower+close+up.jpg)
Wow! A lot of work went into this masterpiece Claire.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/claire+c+necklace.jpg)
This is another treasure Claire. Is that a glittered bottle cap? A posh bottle cap?!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/claire+c+necklace+close+up.jpg)
Unfortunately the carmera has not picked up the finer stamped detail on the ribbon. Claire stamped the ribbon with Black Stazon ink and it looks awesome.
Thank you Claire for sharing your talent, such superb works of art.
We all wish you luck for today - Friday the 13th you know!! We would also like to wish Lucy and her family all the very best for tomorrow. Lucy's daughter is getting married and Lucy has been crafting away for weeks making her daughter a ring cushion (from ribbon) for her special day - Have fun.

What's the big secret....
12/05/2011
Sounds like you all want to know what we are up to at the moment.....
Well we can not tell you everything, but to put Sherry's mind at rest we are NOT on Britains Got Talent as a Ribbon Twirling act!!!! You had us in fits of laughter over that Sherry.
Although Sherry is on the right lines.........we received a phone call last week from a TV production company (arrrgh TV). They are looking for crafters that are passionate about what they do......Bev took the phone call "Oh yes you need to speak to Ali, she loves her ribbons".
So yesterday wearing my lucky ribbon shoes, I was interviewed and filmed......not for TV, but to see if I was suitable for the programme. My 2 hour interview will be edited to 3 minutes and put forward to the producers.
Am I passionate about ribbons?
Do I love what I do?
Did I look good on camera?
Were my instructions clear and easy to follow on making ribbon goodies?
To be honest, I have no idea.........they loved the blog and the way everyone was wishing me luck......they could not believe the amount of ribbon in our warehouse...............oh I do not know..........
I am up againest potters, weavers, ironsmiths....so not sure what I call myself.............so maybe Sherry was right and I am a Ribbon Twirler!!!
Here is someone that is passionate about our challenges - Dorothy. I believe Dorothy has been in all of them - I am sure she will let us know. I love opening Dorothy's challenge parcels, they are always full to the brim with crafting goodies, and she has excelled herself with the seam binding challenge, not 2 creations but 7!!!
So what has Dorothy sent me.......
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+card.jpg)
...Dorothy said this card was not really for the challenge, but thought the little girl reminded her of somebody on our team. I think you are correct Dorothy it does look like our little Mollie.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+card+close+up.jpg)
With those seam binding flowers and seed bead details, I think it is a challenge goodie Dorothy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+flower+cone.jpg)
Dorothy has been keeping this brooch cone, waiting for a special occasion - she thought this challenge was perfect and has filled it with a delightful arrangement of ribbon roses and feathers. Looks like you did a bit of dyeing on one of the roses, very artisic Dorothy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+hair+band.jpg)
Hair bands are all the rage at the moment, perfect colour combo Dorothy.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+hair+grip.jpg)
Staying with the hair theme, Dorothy also sent in this beautiful butterfly hair grip.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+hair+grip+close+up.jpg)
Look at the detail.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+pomanda.jpg)
Onto smellies....with this charming Lavender pomander. We will keep this away from Tony, it will make him sneeze!!! Although he may prefer it to the smell that greeted him this morning. The unit behind ours had a cleaning product spillage overnight and the smell had seeped through to all the other units.......the air was rather uplifting this morning. Tony advised us not to breathe in the aromas although he said they did smell good!!! Naughty Tony.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+pomanda+close+up.jpg)
Sorry back to the pomander...look a spiders web rose...we have all tried these? Yes?
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+scented+pillow.jpg)
A bead edged pot pourri pillow.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+scented+close+up.jpg)
Trimed with the most amazing seam binding flowers.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+scarve.jpg)
And finally at the bottom of Dorothys box was this unique scarf.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/dorothy+scarve+edge.jpg)
I love the way you have picked out and enhanced the colours from the scarf Dorothy.
WOW! What a collection of wonderful Seam Binding goodies Dorothy - thank you so much for all you hard work, they have given me inspiration and I hope they will give our readers plenty as well.

Hello wednesday - Ribbon Carnations
11/05/2011
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
It is wonderful when you have a willing model, OK I did mention a bag of sweeties and this weeks cbeebies magazine! But that would not be a bribe you know, just payment for all the hard work she did.
Sydney is wearing one of my new creations - A Ribbon Carnation Hairband.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/ribbon+carnation+500.jpg)
These little ribbon beauties are very easy to make (I promise) and you just need 4mtrs of ribbon. Look I can even SHOW you how easy they are - we have made a tutorial video for you. Please be gentle with us, this is the first video we have made, as of Monday morning I didn't even know how to turn on the video side of my camera!! The sun decided to shine part way through shooting and I am sure you will spot a few more errors, I will never be a Stephen Spielberg BUT you will learn how easy these ribbon carnations are to make by watching.
The 25mm wired edge ribbon I used is one of our bargain rolls so will cost just 40p per Carnation and you can find it HERE
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/ribbon+carnation.jpg)
Thanks Syd for being such a special model - especially as you were in so much pain..........
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/knees.jpg)
......ouch!!
I have one of those days today.....I am even wearing my lucky shoes......
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/lucky+shoes.jpg)
.....not sure they go with my outfit....but they make me smile......wish me luck and I might tell you more tomorrow.....today is the next stage you see!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2009/1/ali.jpg)
Sometimes it's best to be last
09/05/2011
I had so much planned for today, I was even in the office first this morning. But I seem to have got nowhere, well to be honest it feels as if I have gone backwards. Lots of little jobs have got done, but none of the major ones, a lot of talking but little action on my part.
Never mind there is always tomorrow!
I think I should really start to put Mollie on the payroll. I only have to mention the "Bingo" bag and she runs off to get the bag. She even made mummy (Rachie) put her new school jumper on, today was only her second day at school. Mollie has taken to it with no problem, it is Rachie that worries and clock watches all the time!!!
So my little "Bingo" bag helper, ran outside with bag in hand and stood waiting for me.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2011/5/mollie+44.jpg)
Mollie picked number 44 = Sue C
Where has this weekend gone?
Congrats on reaching the next stage, cant wait to here what its about
I would love to win a voucher to spend on all your gorgeous stock
Sue xxx
Sue left the last comment for this weeks Friday FREEBIE £20 voucher, so sometimes it is best to be last! Sue, please email me at craftyribbons@gmail.com so I can send you the details of how to spend your voucher. Hope you enjoy your FREEBIE shopping trip, do tell what you have on your wish list.
Sorry to everyone that missed out, once again great comments, thank you.
I am trying to get something NEW up and running for this weeks Hello wednesday - but sadly it involves technology. Not one of my strongest points!!
Have fun.
