Elsa’s dress part 4 and Bling Friday

30/05/2014

Morning to all my Friday visitors.
Are you regular readers and followers or Friday FREEBIEers?
or have you come to see Elsa’s finished frozen ribbon dress?

Do I show you the dress or how I made the snowflakes……..?
I am sure you will  scroll down to look at the pics first………….

so here goes…………

photo(32)

Well what do you think?

I wanted to add more silver snowflakes, but Mollie was impatient to wear it for her secret party….
…..which turned out to be a Tea party for me!!!

photo(33)

The train (cape) was just what Mollie had wanted, I have so many pictures of her looking backwards at it,
that I became concerned she was going to fall over!

I painted the snowflakes on with silver glitter.

photo(34)

The fabric was thin and see through.  I printed a couple of snowflakes and laminated them.
Pinned the fabric to the snowflakes.
Using Mod Podge and a thin paint brush I painted the glue onto the fabric and then covered with glitter.
Once the snowflake was covered I knocked off the excess and hung it up to dry.

Even though I say so myself, they look amazing and really sparkle………………….
…………..so does my courtyard……………my kitchen……………..the warehouse…………
………..basically where ever Mollie travels, she leaves a sparkle behind!!

What would you do with a bag of Bling?

Leave me a sparkling comment and the bling WANT IT ALL could be yours.
this is the ribbon I used for the bodice for Mollies dress.

Mollie came dressed for the occasion this morning……….

photo(35)

She picked number  26 from the “Bingo” bag.
Number 26 = Sharon P

Elsa’s dress part 3

29/05/2014

The dress was moving along.
The idea in my head was beginning to come to life.
Read part one here and part two here

It was looking like a dress.
Sewing the bodice to the skirt was easy.
Mollie had her first experience at being “pinned” into a dress,
but she still could not stand still!

The top was a little more tricky, Mollie is so small that I ended up sewing all of it by hand.

She did not want long sleeves as mummy had got her some Elsa gloves.
Phew! I was happy to oblige, short sleeves are much easier to construct.

photo(31)

As I set the sleeves to the top, I remembered the last time I had worked on sleeves.
It must have been for Rachie’s wedding dress some………years ago!

“Elsa has a split in her dress Ali”  we had a little disagreement as to which side,
so we watched the movie together.  (Pleased to see I was correct).

“But where is the cape Ali” – it was getting all a little too much for Mollie, she was so excited.
She phoned me last week to ask if her dress would be ready for the weekend.
She had a secret party to go to and wanted to wear it.

What secret party Mollie?

Pop back tomorrow and you will see one very happy little girl.

We have a new challenge starting today

Go on join in this week.

Hello wednesday–Elsa’s dress part two

28/05/2014

bling

Happy wednesday everyone.

say helo to wednesday 405
So you think Mollie sweet talked me into making her dress.
Well you would be right.

She sooooo wanted an Elsa dress, that I said yes.

The key to the dress was the bodice, and to me that was the easy bit!

photo(21)

It looked just like ribbon weaving – well sort of……
…..and the only ribbon to use would be “BLING” here
I used Silver and Tropic colours

Mollie came round to be measured, she was so excited she would not stay still.
Every time I put the tape measure around her, she would look down to see what I was doing.
I had to explain that this would effect the size of the dress and it would not fit her.
She was a perfect model after that.

photo(28)
(sorry about the dots on my ironing board)

1.  I cut a piece of iron on Vilene that was big enough to go around Mollie’s chest and shaped it
to a V at the front.  I placed it onto my ironing board.

2.  I cut stripes of the Bling ribbon to cover the Vilene.
The bling is a velvet ribbon – which meant that I would not be able to iron on the velvet surface.
So I pinned the Bling ribbon shiny side facing down onto the ironing board.

3.  Once the Vilene was covered with ribbon I removed it.  I had only needed it for size at this stage.

4. I cut long strips of the silver bling and wove them under and over the tropic ribbons.
Pinning at both ends of the ribbon.

5.  Just kept going – weaving under and over and pinning.  Trying to keep the ribbons straight and close together.

6. Once all the weaving was complete, I pinned all the ends. I placed the iron on Vilene on top of the ribbons, with the sticky side facing downwards.
Without steam I ironed the Vilene by placing the iron onto the ribbons, then lifted the iron and repositioned.
If you wiggle the iron around you will wiggle the ribbons and then they will move.

7.  I removed all the pins, and turned it over – yikes will it have worked!

8.  Yes it did.

9.  I then pinned the bodice onto the dress fabric and sewed the two together.
Next I turned it the right way round…………

photo(30)

Tah dah!

One completed sparkly bodice for Elsa’s Dress.
Mollie by now was getting really excited.

Pop back tomorrow for the next stage.

A little girls whisper

27/05/2014

Hello everyone and good morning.
I do hope you had a fab long weekend – I did.
You all guessed it was my birthday, thank you for your wonderful messages.
I was totally spoilt!

Tony made me this…….

photo(19)

A Sicilian lemon Cheesecake – it was totally delish.
All gone.

I would like to tell you all a little story………..
A few weeks back I had dental surgery, it was really painful and I felt very unwell.
Little Mollie heard about this and brought me her Disney Frozen DVD to watch……
……”It will make you feel better Ali”.

I watched the DVD and to be honest to was a lovely story.
I am sure most of you will have seen it.

Mollie collected the DVD the next day after school.
I think she felt sorry for me, she climbed on the sofa and gave me a big cuddle.
(oooooh…….mind my mouth!)

Rachie went off to make herself a cup of tea and Mollie started to whisper……
…..Mollie why are you whispering?……
…..”Because Mummy said I am not to talk to you, but whispering is not the same as talking.  Is it Ali?”

the whisper went along these lines…………..

”Elsa’s dress is very pretty, mummy can not buy me one they are all sold out.
Elsa’s dress is very special, I am very special Ali.
I would look very pretty in Elsa’s dress, it sparkles.
It has a very long cape Ali, with snowflakes
Ali will you make me Elsa’s dress, please I would really love it.”

Oh boy, I was not expecting that.

photo(20)

I gather Rachie had told her she was NOT allowed to talk to me about making the dress, hence the whisper.
Clever little girl.
Pop back tomorrow to see how I got on…..

Hello wednesday–wall art

21/05/2014

say helo to wednesday 405

Not so cold today so no gloves.
They would have got very sticky working on todays project anyway.

We launched a Sisters ribbon bag this week.

bevs ribbon bag bursting with spring party ribbons

It is unusual for me to lay the ribbons out like this to take photos,
but I wanted to make sure that ALL the ribbons could be seen.

Specially the Lil’ Sister, Middle Sister and Big Sister ribbons.
When I saw all the sister ribbons laid out for the photo shoot, I knew I had a new idea.

hello wednesday wall art

I have a big empty wall in my top office, and 3 very large canvases that I have never done anything with.
I do mean big, they measure 81cms wide and 65cms deep.

So I did this……..

photo(14)

The best bit was getting all sticky with the glue!
I did have fun making my wall art.

Now when I walk up the stairs to my office, I see this ribbon art and it makes me smile.

Don’t forget you can still enter the Facebook giveaway here, for a free Sister ribbon bag.

friday freebie header 500

But first off, thank you to everyone that joined in with last weeks Friday FREEBIE – all things white.

I forgot to ask one of the children to pick the number last night from the “Bingo” bag, so I did it myself,
but without a selfie!

no 12

The winner is number 12 = Gail Lass
White is awesome and I use that color (or non-color) more than anything else. I can ink it with a refill, color it with a Copic, use embossing powder...it's the most versatile color and my number 1! Hugs, Gail

Congratulations Gail, please email Bev bev.craftyribbons@gmail.com with your address details.
You have until Thursday 22 May to claim your prize.

Back to this weeks prize ……..these delish cakes got me thinking…………………….

Oh yum yum.

Hope you have some super plans for this weekend, Tony and I are off to Brighton tomorrow.
Just to have a stroll along the sea front, a little yummy lunch maybe.
