Summer Fete rain rain stay away

22/08/2013

Morning you wonderful Fete visitors - we have another fun packed day planned.

Although Mollie and I are a little worried it may rain today.......boooo.

That would be an awful shame, Kate's bunting would get wet.

Kate has made loooooads,

it is hanging everywhere............

So pretty and colourful it has made the fete a very cheery place to be.

Although Charlotta may be having the same thoughts as Mollie and myself.

Please, please let the sun shine all day,
BUT................
...........if not................
.....then Mollie and I are ready!

And YES we do wear them!

What fun!

Have a great day and remember, today is your last chance to get a raffle ticket.
Prize draw takes place tomorrow morning.

Thank you for buying Sam and Mollie's cakes yesterday, how were the purple ones?

Summer Fete Cake Stall

21/08/2013

Morning all our Fete visitors, do we have a tasty treat for you today...........
.............ummmm maybe not the dark purple ones!

Every Summer Fete has a Cake Stall and ours is no exception.
But this time of year you have to careful of all those horrid wasps and flies.

Never fear, we have one of these...........

Wow awesome Mandy, just what Mollie needs on her stall.

Mollie has set her stall up nice and early, hung the bunting,
layered the table cloth and arranged her cakes.

All she needs now are customers.

Sam and Mollie made today's cakes.  Yes I do mean MADE them.
They all have ribbon flags, some have sprinkles.
Two have blackberries picked from the office garden.

The butterfly cakes have ribbon butterflies as their flags.

Sam being Sam, wanted to make Halloween cakes.............
............ummmm for a Summer Fete!

.......I did warn you about the dark purple ones!

Oooh look Mollie has made a sale.

Well done Mollie.

We hope you will buy one of Sam and Mollie's cakes, they do look yummmy.

Have fun

Summer Fete Games Day

20/08/2013

Morning everyone.
Hope you had a fab day at the Fete yesterday, weather stayed nice and looks to be good today.

Fetes are normally a great family day out, and I would like to thank my little family of helpers.
They were hard at work yesterday, getting todays games ready and set up for you all.

Syd was in charge of the Promarkers.
She knew it must be important - they are NEVER allowed my Promarkers!

Who wants a go on our first game of the day............any ideas?

Ta da!

We have a Lucky Dip!

Lots of ribbon and button goodies have been wrapped up by Mollie, Sam and Sydney.
All in bright coloured paper.

For a chance to win one of their lucky dip prizes just write Lucky Dip into the special instruction box during checkout,
and the children will do the rest.........

If you are really, really lucky, you may even get bits of sawdust!

(Sorry I must tell you this - the children had spent all morning wrapping up the lucky dip prizes.
We have a huge tub in the warehouse.......BUT.......when they pulled these prizes from the sawdust,
they asked if they could open them!!!!!  So sweet.)

Lets move on to Laura's stall, she has also been busy getting her game ready.
Roll up, roll up have a go on our ribbon hoopla.

Go on have a go...............

Wicked game Laura, really enjoyed playing.

All these games have made me thirsty..............lets head over to Mandy's stall.

Ooooh nice, a cool glass of home made lemonade.

Mandy has even printed the receipt.
Quick, get your pen and paper out and make a copy!

Very tasty Mandy - thanks.

The sun is out in its full glory, so maybe it is time to get the picnic blanket from the car and have a sit
and a little game of Flowers and Stars.

Never heard of Flowers and Stars?
Maybe you call it Naughts and Crosses in your part of the world!

It always amazes me what you can do with ribbon and buttons.
Hope you will enjoy your day.

We still have some raffle tickets left - Pink ones here and blue ones here.

Have fun

Summer Fete open day

19/08/2013

Morning everyone and welcome to Crafty Ribbons Summer Fete.
Slightly overcast here today, but that will not spoil our fun.

We have our very own Sydney opening the Fete, we believe she has appeared more often on the blog then anyone else.
So with no further ado, Sydney declares our Summer Fete open

All the way from Sweden Charlotta welcomes you all to the Fete.

Wish your were here Charlotta and could experience your first English Summer Fete

I have been busy making items for our Summer Fete Craft stall....
well all Fetes have Craft Stalls!

But before that we have a super attraction, visiting for today only.
I love steam engines, we grew up a few miles away from the famous Woodcote Steam Fair,
and now live where the largest Steam Fair in Europe is held - BLANDFORD!

Marianne has made this stunning scrapbook page of her steam fair visit to Dorset.
It is amazing how big, noisy, smelly, mechanical works of art, look even better with a few bits of ribbon!

Lets move away from all the noise and smoke, to the Craft Stall....

We have some lavender hearts on display, all decorated with ribbons and buttons (what else!)

Not just any old lavender hearts....

......these have been made from recycled jeans.
Rachie wanted some jeans shorts....so I cut the legs of a pair, sewed a hem and kept the off cuts.....
...thought they may come in useful one day!

I think you will be able to work out how to make these from the photo above.
Only thing to add is if you use your own lavender, then put it in a plastic bag
and pop it in the freezer for 24 hours.  This will kill any little bugs.

I thought this branch wood fence was perfect for my hearts.... summer fete - ish style.

Do want to see what is behind the fence?

Everyone takes lavender hearts on a walk to Old Harry Rocks - don't they?

Have a great day wandering around the Fete, more to see tomorrow.

Ok  - this project may not be for everyone.................but with the school holidays upon us...........

Sydney was in the warehouse yesterday helping us to move ribbons into our SALE area (more about that later).  She had been taking armfulls of ribbon rolls from one end of the warehouse to the other, but she then disappeared.  We thought she had got bored and gone to watch a DVD.  I found her on the floor playing with a big roll of tinsel ribbon...............I do mean BIG roll!

She had made herself a skirt and headress.  What fun.  A length of ribbon to go around the waist and then just knot other ribbons onto it.  Bev tells me she wore it all afternoon and wanted to wear it to bed!

You can find Syd's Tinsel in our.....................

Hello wednesday - back with buttons

07/08/2013

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

Hi everyone, it has been a while.  I hope you are all well and enjoying the summer.  Tony and I had a fantastic holiday, the weather was just perfect.  Loads of awesome food, lots of walking and some wonderful places visited.  It was rather a shock to come back to the stock take.  But that was completed with Bev's high level of efficiency and went off without a hitch.

It has been a couple of busy weeks since we arrived back.  We have had another attempt at re-arranging our warehouse.  Moving shelves and units is not the easest thing to do when they are filled to the top with new ribbon.  Far too heavy to move loaded, so you remove the ribbon.....ummmmm where do you put it.....move the shelves and then re-stock with the ribbons.  All sounds so simple when I dream up the idea, but in practice something rather different, oh well it all looks good now.

Our loading bay is now larger, to allow for the exhibition stand to be returned from shows and laid out, rather then trying to re-stock around the warehouse.  All the exhibition stock is in the same area, no more hunting required!  It looks really good, we have even started planning the new stand layout for the Exeter show which is towards the end of September and we are still in August!!!!

I have not been able to do much crafting, although my fingers have been busy.  I have been after a new design software program for ages, but I have been rather unsure whether I would be able to use it.  Not much computer confidence in me, all self taught by trial and error.  Anyway I took the plunge last week....................I think my head was going to explode, I could not work the damn thing.  Zillions of tutorial videos later, I cracked it......yeah...........I am so pleased.  Pleased because it will mean improvements at CR but also pleased with myself.....I did it.

Back to Hello Wednesday - I made this brooch for my holiday.  I had a new top and I wanted something to match it.

It hit the spot, looked fab on.  I used a selection of buttons from Cream and our exclusive Nile colourway Basics 2 Go button range. I also added one of the Keep Calm ribbons, but just the Sew On bit- a little different I thought.

So many new things planned, lots of deliveries expected....oooh so exciting.

All the family are away on holiday, I am in charge of 4 rabbits, 2 cats, a huge fish tank full of fish with lots of babies. and two houses.  Wish me luck, I have had to set alarms on my phone to remind me to feed the animals!!! Not my forte.

Low button stocks

29/07/2013

Look what someone has been making while I was on holiday

I think our stocks of buttons has gone down a bit!

Hello wednesday - just add buttons

24/07/2013

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

Hats.
Love them or hate them.

Thought about jazzing them up with buttons?

Looks like Mollie loves them - she wouldn't wear this hat until the buttons were added.

We used a selection of buttons from our Basics 2 Go range here
What fun.

None of us are looking forward to the next 4 days, sickness has been banned.
Stock taking yuk! Wish us luck.

Hello wednesday - lots and lots of chocolate

17/07/2013

Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!

Sydney had her 8th birthday party a week early so that Tony and I could attend (we are still away ).
As a thank you I said I would make her birthday cake.
What did she want as a cake?.............................lots and lots of chocolate was her reply.

I think this hit the spot!

I must tell you - Syds party was on the hottest Saturday so far this year, the 5th July.
It was boiling hot, we had to transport the cake to the party.
Talk about a nightmare.
I put the cake in my foot well.
Tony had the AC up so high, I told Syd I got frost bite on my toes!

This is the easiest cake I have ever made.  Does not even matter what the sponge cake looks like!

Victoria sponge, filled with jam.
Buttercream with extra milk added to make it slightly thinner then normal.
Lightly cover sides and top of cake with buttercream.
Add 2 fingers of Kit Kat at a time to sides of cake.

Tie ribbon around the Kit Kats I used 35mm satin here
Turquoise is Sydney's favourite colour

Fill the top the cake with M&M's and Smarties

Simple!

Syd loved it and her friends thought it was wicked.
I got an order for two more cakes!
