Good to see you back Jan, hope you are up to crafting again.

Love this idea, so simple - yet very effective. I would love to make shocking Pink bunting but with a house full of boys think the Lime would be a better a choice!

She did manage to recover and dress it for me.

Summer Bunting week - ribbon bunting
23/05/2013
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/ribbon+bunting+header+copy.jpg)
Nope! Then I will let Sydney show you..............
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/syd.jpg)
A ribbon bunting skirt for Syd and Sam's trampoline and it looks WICKED!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/ribbon+bunting.png)
You can use any ribbon, short or small, wide or narrow, it is really easy to make![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/materials+2.png)
-
scissors
-
sewing machine
-
ribbon - I used 25mm stripe
here, 25mm Basics 2 Go Satin
here and grosgrain
here
-
bias binding - I used a shocking one
here, but we have other colours
here
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/instructions2.png)
1. No template required today! I used 4 colours of stripe ribbon and 4 plain ribbons.
Gather all the ribbon ends together and cut the ribbons into lengths.
I did not measure mine as I wanted them all different lengths.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/ribbon.jpg)
Mix all the ribbons around.
2. Fold the bias binding in half and machine about 30cms.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/bias+binding.jpg)
3. Pick up one of each ribbon from your ribbon pile, 4 stripes and 4 plains.
Place the first one into the fold of the bias binding.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/machine+ribbon.jpg)
4. I wanted all my ribbon colours mixed up, so I alternated between stripes and plains.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/add+more+ribbon.jpg)
5. Once you have used your first set of 8 ribbons, select your next set of 8 ribbons.
Keep sewing them into the bias binding, and they will stream out the back of the machine.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/streaming+out+the+back.jpg)
6. Keep sewing until you either have the length of bunting you want, or
you run out of ribbon strips! Repeat step 2, sewing 30cms of bias at the end.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/lay+ribbons+out.jpg)
Lay the ribbons out on a flat surface.
7. Cut the ribbon ends to an angle.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/cut+ends+copy.jpg)
We used cable ties to attach the ribbon bunting to the trampoline, but ribbon would work well!
The bias binding allows for a little bit of stretch, so fit snuggly to the frame.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/wind.jpg)
Bev was sitting one morning having a tea on her decking and said,
the wind was gently blowing at the bunting and it looked magical - ahhhhh!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/FREEBIES+copy.jpg)
We will be adding 2 NEW dotting colours to our Bias Binding today.
But what is your favourite Bias of ALL TIME?
need a reminder of what we stock? Then have a look here
We have three 10mtr bundles of ANY bias binding up for grabs,
so three winners.
We will pick the winners next Tuesday
Remember to refresh your screen after leaving a comment,
to ensure it has not been eaten. Any problems email it to us craftyribbons@gmail.com
Sorry no circles tomorrow...............BUT I think you may find it delish!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2009/1/ali.jpg)
Summer Bunting week - pinked!
22/05/2013
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1summer+bunting+house.jpg)
Not sure there is such a word as "Pinked" but I am referring to cutting with pinking shears!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pinked+logo.png)
I had very little of this cupcake fabric and I wanted to make as many flags as I could,
so pinking shears came to the rescue.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/window+bunting.jpg)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/materials+2.png)
-
fabric
-
pencil
-
scissors
-
sewing machine
-
matching sewing thread
-
bias binding - I used a shocking one
here, but we have other colours
here
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/instructions2.png)
1. Make yourself a template here .
I cut mine from tracing paper, so that I could place it over my cupcake fabric,
to postion the cupcakes in the centre of each flag.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1+cut+out+triangles.jpg)
Use a pencil to draw around the template, then with pinking shears cut on the drawn line.
2. Fold the bias binding in half and machine about 30cms.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1+fold+bias+in+half.jpg)
3. Insert your first flag into the fold of the bias binding and machine.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1+insert+flag.jpg)
4. I did not have very many cupcake triangles for my bunting, so I made the gap between each
flag further apart then normal. I cut a piece of ribbon and used this as my space marker.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1+ribbon+as+marker.jpg)
Place the ribbon marker so that it touches the sewn triangle, then lay it alongside the folded bias binding.
Mark the end of the ribbon with a pin or pinch it with your nail.
Machine the bias binding until you reach the mark then insert the next triangle.
5. Continue machining and attaching the triangles until all the triangles have been used.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1streaming+from+back+of+machine.jpg)
They will just stream out at the back of your machine. Repeat step 2.
6. Iron the bias binding flat.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/1+iron.jpg)
Your bunting is ready to be hung!
Syd and Sam love their cupcake playhouse. I am amazed that I managed to find any photos
without Sam's smiling face looking out of the window.
What fun.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/house+header.jpg)
FREEBIE TIME............
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/FREEBIES+copy.jpg)

![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/summer+bias+binding+copy.jpg)

We have five 10mtr bundles of plain bias binding up for grabs,

10mtrs of one colour or 5mtrs each of two colours.
We will pick the winners next Tuesday
Remember to refresh your screen after leaving a comment,

Congratulations Louise you are the winner of the bundle of summer ribbons. Please email bev.craftyribbons@gmail.com with your address and she will get the ribbons in the post to you. Thank you to everyone that joined in with our Friday FREEBIE and suggested other ribbons we could include.

Summer Bunting week - traditional
21/05/2013
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/what+can+you+make+header+copy.jpg)
Honest this set of bunting was made using 3 tea towels and is made in the traditional way.
I have a "thing" about crafting with tea towels, read my past posts here.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/three+tea+towels+copy.jpg)
I am always on the look out for packs of 3 tea towels, this set cost me £2.99, I have
a whole stack of such waiting to be turned into something special!
I used the wicked red Bias Binding with white polka dots here, if you are making any bunting that
requires sewing then Bias Binding here is a MUST!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/traditional+logo.png)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/what+can+you+make+with+3+tea+towels.jpg)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/materials+2.png)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/instructions2.png)
1. Cut off the seams that run around the edge of each tea towel, and throw them away.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/cut+away+seams+copy.jpg)
2. Fold each tea towel with right sides facing each other in half, then half again and iron the folds flat.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/iron+into+lines+copy.jpg)
3. Cut along the folds, do not separate the layers. This will give you 4 strips per tea towel.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/cut+into+stripes+copy.jpg)
4. Use the bunting template from yesterday, mark out the triangles onto the fabric,
turning the template to create triangles as shown.
My tea towel strips were just over 15cms in height, so I cut the template down slightly.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/Picture2.jpg)
5. Keeping all four layers of fabric together, cut out the triangles.
Repeat with the other two tea towel strips.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/cut+into+triangles+copy.jpg)
6. Pin two triangles together, with right sides facing each other.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pin+copy.jpg)
7. Sew around each triangle about 5mm from the raw edge.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/machine+copy.jpg)
8. Trim away the excess fabric at the tip of each flag triangle.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/trim+away+tip+copy.jpg)
9. Turn each triangle through to the right side and iron flat.
10. Trim away the top edges to make them straight.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/cut+off+top+edge+bits+copy.jpg)
11. Sort the bunting out into the order you wish them to hang.
Pre stacking them is much easier when machining them to the bias binding
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pre+stack+copy.jpg)
12. I fold my bias in half as I machine, using my fingers to crease the fold.
But you can fold and iron the bias before you use it.
Machine about 30cms of folded bias before you attach your first flag,
this allows you something to tie the finished bunting to!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/fold+bias+in+half+copy.jpg)
13. Slip the first triangle flag into the fold of the bias binding.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/slip+in+flag+copy.jpg)
14. If you are not confident to hold the flag and the bias while machining, then pin in place.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pin+on+bias+copy.jpg)
15. Sew the bias to the triangle flag.
Continue sewing all the flags to the bias binding leaving a small gap in between each flag.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/sew+on+bias+copy.jpg)
16. Repeat step 12 once all the triangles have been sewn together.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/what+can+you+make+with+3+tea+towels.jpg)
Traditional bunting was not that scary was it? Remember you can use this method with any fabric,
not just tea towels!
So many of you joined in yesterday with the gingham FREEBIES that we have this for your today.....
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/FREEBIES+copy.jpg)
What colour dotty bias binding would you like to make bunting with?
Check out the colours here and leave us a comment.
We have five 5mtr bundles of any bias binding up for grabs,
so five winners.
We will pick the winners next Monday Tuesday (ooops guess who forgot it was a Bank Holiday weekend durrrrr!)

Summer Bunting week - No sew
20/05/2013
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/summer+bunting+week+header.jpg)
Welcome to our Summer Bunting week - shame it is raining in Dorset!
We have all sorts of bunting this week, no sew, sew, small and large. A few surprises, some super photos and tutorials.
If that was not all we also have FREEBIES, so do not forget to check in everyday to see what we have created.
Why not sign up for our newsletter here. You will receive an email every time we write a new post - so no missing out.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/materials+2.png)
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/instructions2.png)
1. Make yourself a triangle template. Print or copy the template below.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/Bunting+15cm.png)
This is a multi use template, you can cut it horizontally to create any size bunting you want - magic!
2. Cut out a selection of paper flags.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/step+1+copy.jpg)
3. Using a hole punch, punch a hole at each end.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/step+two+copy.jpg)
4. Thread the gingham ribbon through the first paper flag and secure with a knot.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/end+bunting+copy.jpg)
5. Thread ribbon through the hole on the other side of this flag and through a new paper flag.
Place a weight onto each flag, this will help with tying the bow.
I used the spacing on my cutting mat to keep the distance of the flags even.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/weights+copy.jpg)
6. Fold the ribbon over to start making a bow.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/tuck+under+copy.jpg)
7. You may find it easier to place a pin into the knot of the ribbon and into the cutting mat.
It just means that the knot remains tight while you tie the bow.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pin+2+copy.jpg)
8. Fold the ribbon to create a loop and hold with your index finger and your thumb.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/fold+loop+copy.jpg)
9. Wrap the other end of the ribbon over the loop, and hold with your thumb.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/wrap+over+copy.jpg)
10. Remove your index finger and tuck the ribbon up through the hole to create a second loop.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/tuck+loop+through+gap+copy.jpg)
11. Pull the ribbons tight, the secret about bow making is having a tight central knot.
Do not worry about the shape too much, we will sort that out next.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/pull+tight+copy.jpg)
12. Play around with the bow, making sure the loops are the same size, keeping the centre knot tight.
Trim the ends and remove the pin.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/remove+pin+copy.jpg)
13. Join the next paper flag to the other side in the same way.
Continue until all the paper flags are conected.. Repeat step 4 for the last flag.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/one+to+one+copy.jpg)
14. Looking good.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/IMG_7290+pink+bow+copy.jpg)
If you do not have the time to tie a bow between the flags, then just thread the flags onto one long piece of ribbon.
Have a play with different papers, you could use newspapers or maps for themed parties.
Our events would not be the same without a few FREEBIES!
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/FREEBIES+copy.jpg)
What colour gingham ribbon would you use for your bunting?
Check out the colours here and leave us a comment.
We have five 20mtr rolls of 10mm gingham up for grabs,
so 1 roll to five winners.
We will pick the winners next Monday, so plenty of time.

Hello wednesday - flowers say it all
15/05/2013
![](/docs/blogfiles/2010/6/hello+wednesday.png)
Don't you just LOVE wednesday's? Say hello to wednesday "hello wednesday" It's all downhill from now on to the weekend - yippee!!!
Todays Hello wednesday idea was sent to me by Elaine one of our Design Team girls.
![](/docs/blogfiles/2013/5/hello+wednesday+rose+card+copy.jpg)
A Handmade Get Well Card - it gives me so much pleasure to sit and look at my cards. Silly to say but they did make me feel better!
Elaine only used one single piece of Swiss Dot Grosgrain ribbon here, but it just made it perfect. Thank you Elaine and to all of you that sent me cards. I have to say that Sam made me a card every day for almost two weeks. Every morning when I went into work there was a Ali card on my desk. If he did not have the time to make a card in the morning he raided Bev's stash and sent me a Christmas card!! But the thought was there.
A little sewing machine work for me today.

Not always ribbons.....

...........sometimes we do go out and play. Maybe not what you thought Mr & Mrs Craftyribbons would get up to, but I spotted this, and I thought of work........

.....it just made me giggle. Cross stitch on a car, not using embroidery thread or even ribbon, but it is cross stitch!
What were we doing looking at cars? Well............... we have a bad boy in the family................

Meet Scooby. He is (one) of Tony's cars and he had an outing to Japfest at the weekend. Tony watched all the cars on the track, while I photographed all that moved. I have just got a point and shoot camera, and I pointed it at everything!!!!!
Scoobies are known for the back ends!

This tickled me, a line of big laddies showing off their bottoms.
I did try and persuade Tony that scooby could do with a re-spray

Nope that did not go down well. Tony driving a PINK car, a PINK Scooby car! I bought him a pink shirt a while back and told him it was raspberry. He wore it quite happily until a customer at an exhibition asked him for a pink ribbon the same colour as his shirt!
Back to ribbons - you all liked the stripe ribbons I see. Nice summery, deckchair-ish ribbons I would agree, but today I am freezing. I have my body warmer, scarf and gloves on and have even thought about making a hot water bottle!! Why has it gone so cold. It is pouring with rain, we have a metal roof and the rain is so heavy we can hardly hear each other. I have spent the last two days making things for a special event we are holding next week (will tell you more later in the week) but at this rate I should have made them waterproof!!!
Syd picked the winner of this weeks Friday FREEBIE (sorry been moonlighting as a portrait photographer, Syd had been watching me and wanted some photos taken! WOW look at that white background.)
